Canadian Keanu Reeves said: ‘It’s always nice to be back’ as he returned to Toronto on Thursday night to walk the black carpet for the Canadian premiere of ‘The Matrix Resurrections’.
Reeves, who looked sharp in a black suit, surprised fans in multiple auditoriums at the Cineplex Scotiabank Theater and expressed his gratitude for Canada’s continued love and support of “The Matrix.”
Born in Beirut and raised in Toronto, the actor said in an interview, “It’s always nice to be back, and tonight people are going to see ‘The Matrix Resurrections’ and I hope they like it. ‘will like.”
The Scotiabank Theater has been transformed into a different look with an iconic green digital rain symbolizing the computer coding made famous by ‘The Matrix’ franchise, an effect that was achieved through high definition projection mapping. Once inside, as fans ascended the theater’s massive escalators and stairs, green rain continued to pour down screens and surfaces. It made fans feel like they were back in “The Matrix.”
According to a press release from Warner Bros. Canada, it was the first time that Cineplex had allowed a full takeover of the theater by a film studio and it was the first event to show simultaneous screenings of a film on all 14 screens of the Scotiabank Theater Toronto. .
“The Matrix Resurrections” is the fourth film in the franchise, bringing back fan-favorite characters Neo (Reeves) and Trinity, played by Carrie Anne-Moss, 18 years after the last film, “The Matrix Revolutions”, in 2003. Co -written and directed by Lana Wachowski, the film also stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jessica Henwick, Jonathan Groff, Neil Patrick Harris, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Christina Ricci.
